Re: Newest dragon cross stitch

Cool! A rainbow dragon would be so neat :)

(which brings up the interesting point of what colour I should pick ... hmmm ... tricky)

Re: The Size of Pern

I've always gone with "Parallels Earth" myself and assumed that it must be about the same, give or take a little.

As for the 2 moons ... is it possible Belior is particularly small? Or would that...

Re: Printer Hall

I just remembered!

Little fuzzy, might be wrong, but aren't they all supposed to be aware of their rights in the Charter?

You could probably argue that basic literacy is required for that, or...

Re: Printer Hall

Possibly they could have carried small packages too?

Also ... given the typical memory-span displayed on oral cultures they might have been able to memorize and carry spoken messages as well?

Re: Newest dragon cross stitch

@Lily - yeah, just feels like something they should have anticipated. But it is good they took steps to improve things over the next few nights.

Anyway! Just got an email that they're shipping my...

Re: Newest dragon cross stitch

I won't lie - that's kinda weird. Not sure I've ever come across three other kiwi fans on one website before.

Let alone ones from my actual city.

So weird.

@Vyon - that sounds horrid! I...

:D

I am indeed in Wellington :)
(and it looks like so are you?)

Nope, not involved. Would have loved to have gone but tickets are so expensive. So sadly no helping of old ladies :) But hey,...

OMG

Priscilla you are magic!

I tried to find it yesterday - but I was mostly searching w herschners (or however you spell it!). Didn't even think to see if other companies had it!

Oh that's...

Ah drat.

Oh well - I did rather figure as much. Started trying to recreate the pattern last night just in case (in Excell bc I didn't have any graph paper lying about). So far it's doable if...

Don't know if anyone can help me out here but I love that first blue dragon. Does anyone have the pattern still? I checked the company website and can't find it but it's so very lovely and I've...

Re: A crazy idea...

I suspect a ledge would obviously be preferred, as has been mentioned upthread. But there would probably be occasions where this simply isn't practical so I'm still trying to work out what they'd do...

Re: New Covers for Harper Hall trilogy

Ooh! I forgot that they'd made progress on the movie front - don't suppose anything new has been released?

As for the cover ... pretty, and I do quite like it in and of itself, but it isn't what...

I wouldn't say that's the isolation is the quirk so much as I'd expect those Hillfolk to have a higher percentage of ... say, people who believe in witchcraft (as a purely random example plucked from...

Re: Another big, unanswered question

My in-universe theory is less 'growing up' and more ... religion seems to evolve to provide answers science can't (yet) explain, right?

These days the answer to questions like "Why does it rain?"...

Re: Tubberman's Big Cats

I like the Noah's Ark idea and Game Reserve ideas and I think there's a certain logic in assuming it was just the 'basic colony starter pack'.

It might even have been to set up some sort of zoo -...

Re: What is the significnce of F'lon/F'lar's eyecoloring

Amber is a moderately unusual and fairly striking eye colour so I think that really is all that it is. It's just a quick and dirty way Anne can make her male protagonist (and designated love...

We know that clear and accurate visualization is important for...

Re: Hold Names (spoiler if you havent read Dragonsdawn)

I might be wrong, but I think the implication of Kennet's post was that Lemnos might be named after ... say, Bart's brother Bob.

Or his kid Ben Lemnos who (spurred on by the shame of his father's...

Re: Female green riders

See, I don't think its about recognizing sensuality - it’s not about the rider's feelings at all. It’s 100% about the dragons (and this is where the skeeviness of Pern comes in).

The dragon wants...

Re: Dragons and their tails

Meters in the atlas might have been a result of somebody grabbing an old book to check the sizes, seeing meters, and not remembering the change.

As for the size charts themselves, this one here...

Re: He was HOW old?

I'll add in a little extra note that the age of consent is 16 in New Zealand, so for me there's nothing too weird here. And as a note, that's a leftover from our farming-colony days. 16 is also the...

Fire Lizard age to Flame

Accepting that Fire Lizards do flame, does anyone know how old they are when they start?

I know I read them doing it at some point (wild fairs in Dragonsdawn? Menolly's fair in the Harper novels?)...

Re: Firelizards in Fanfiction (Logistics)

Hmm. I'd planned to provide vitamin d through their diet, primarily in the form of fish. Do you think that's likely to be insufficient?

Also, are you sure dragons don't require sunlight to mate?...

Firelizards in Fanfiction (Logistics)

So, I'm writing a Pern crossover fic (because it's not like I have essays due or anything...) and I'm kind of coming up against a few minor things, so I'm looking for some more opinions.

Firstly,...

Re: Favourite Weyr/What Weyr would you live in?

Huh. Three Wellingtonians in a row.

I can't find any good quotes or descriptions of Ista online, but I've always pictured it as a warm and wet sort of place. Kind of like Auckland, except more so...

Re: Favourite Weyr/What Weyr would you live in?

In order of preference, Ista, Southern, and Monaco Bay. I get cold really easily, so any of these would be good, but Ista is my first choice because it apparently is quite small and doesn't hold as...

Re: If You Were to Impress...

I'd want a Blue, with Brown as my second choice.

Most internet quizzes back this up giving me one or the other of the two.

I like Blues, they're small and fast, rather like a Green, but they...
