Re: Odds of autism on Pern?

Look at the career of almost any mediaeval monarch. I don't think psychopath is a particularly useful category to describe individuals in societies other than modern industrialised ones, and even...

Re: Odds of autism on Pern?

There is a theory that the hemophilia which plagued various European royal families in the late 19th early 20th century was due to a spontaneous mutation in Queen Victoria or her mother. Presumably...

Re: Odds of autism on Pern?

The only mentally retarded character who immediately springs to my mind is Camo, and we are told in Masterharper of Pern that his retardation was due to an accident at birth -- the umbilical cord got...

Question Wansor

I'm reading "Skies of Pern" for the first time, and am getting a bit worried about Wansor. Has he gone blind? There have been a couple of references to people having to describe what's going on for...

Re: Maelstrom

That is similar to what I quite often do if I want a book which isn't available here or is available but prohibitively expensive. I order a book from Amazon and have it sent to a friend's brother who...

I don't think you could email the actual book. Probably the way to do it would be to share your name and password, which is probably against the terms and conditions. Whether they have any way of...

Re: Prayer

To me, the Japanese example is still a religion, very different in form from religion as practised in European-derived cultures, but still a religion.

Perhaps it depends on what one understands by religion -- I wasn't necessarily thinking of an organised religion. Then again, I'm not sure how long an un-organised (disorganised? :) ) religion would...

Oh, I agree completely, but apparently authors may have different agreements with different publishers in specific countries, so they are not allowed to sell to people in other countries.

Re: How old is Theo?

I can live with discrepancies between books -- we all know Pern evolved rather than having been planned as a series from the start, but within a single 50 page story it seems kind of sloppy.
