How to order your copy of "40 Years of Pern"
 

Right, the work is done, the last words typed, the last pictures inserted, the cover designed and the files uploaded...

I'm so very sorry this all took so long, especially for the people who want to order a copy to take to Eurocon to get signed.
People who want to take a copy with them to Eurocon should order immediately (manufacture time is between 10-15 days) and have the book sent to them per express/expedited (I'm told the prices are reasonable and I'm certain the regular postage prices are very reasonable).


The book is a 6"x 9" hardcover with colour cover and black & white interior with 148 pages. There's a book preview with which you can read the first 10 pages (including the beginning of the Introduction Anne wrote for this commemorative book)

Prices are (ex postage): $18.15 - UK pounds 10.00 - Euro 14.61
and you can pay either by credit card or PayPal

Hans every time I try to preview the book it either tell me that that page is unavialable or that my rating is not mature enough to preview the matrial. I love the cover tho.

Cheryl had the same "problem" when she tried to access the page for the first time; I haven't encountered it.

You have to register an account with Lulu it seems, to be able to preview the book. But not registering doesn't prevent you from ordering it.

Maybe we should post our own preview, cause having to register to see it is kind of annoying!

P'ter, if both Hans and I receive our copies in time for Eurocon, then I will have an extra couple of copies I can sell at the con. I ordered extra as a backup, because it looked like shipping to me would be faster than to Hans.

P'ter, if push comes to shove you can send me (or maybe one of your fellow countrymen) the money in an envelope and I (or somebody else) will order the book and have it mailed to you.

*Sticks up hand, waving* You meant a check, not money in an envelope, right Hans? Unless posting cash is safer in Europe than here. Money sent through the mail has a troubling way of "going missing". :(

No Cilla, I really meant money in an envelope (but so that you cant see it from the outside of course). For small amount I'll take that risk any time over bank transfer cost.

I once sold genealogy books to the church of LDS in Utah, they sent a check of $18 and the cost I had to pay the bank for cashing it was $14 :mad:

It let me look at it once then started with the you're not old enough bit. I know someone who has a paypal account so I'm going to see if she'll order it for me.

Okies! I didn't realise the exchange transfer rate was that awful! I was only thinking that if P'ter had a checking account in the UK, perhaps he could send a check to someone "there" who has a paypal or credit card account and they could order for him? Then there'd be no exchange problem. Sigh, some things that should be easy, never seem to be, do they?! :roll:

I ordered mine. I could see the order page, the picture of the cover and the preview, but the other page where it says a private link will not let me see it. I went in and changed my preferences but it still says I am not mature enough to see it. That well may be, but....

P'ter, when sending money you best send a greeting card and tape the money inside the card; that way no one could even feel there's money in it and it looks like a regular get well or birthday card ;) in a regular envelope.

15 euro's covers the book itself but if I order it (or if you get one of the ones Cheryl has ordered; I'll confer with her) there's still the postage either she or I have paid to have the books sent to us. Sorry, this is a non profit venture but I don't want to lose money over it :)
The bad news is that standard shipping (too slow to have the book at Copenhagen in time) is 5.07 pounds) and Express shipping is 12.37 pounds (that is from Lulu to me). :( I suppose it'll be cheaper if the shopping cart "recognised" the address was in the UK.

I fervently hope you'll be able to collect it in person!

Ah... but that's logical since that link is there only for MY convenience :) You are actually looking at a private page within my Lulu account and the link jst points to the page you already looking at :grin: Hover over it with your mouse and compare the URL with that in the address line of your browser ;) It's just the link I need to paste somewhere to direct people to the page!

Hurray! I just ordered 2 copies (I had a feeling I might need a second copy to give to my family, or whatever...). I can't wait for it to arrive. :bouncy: With 10-15 days manufacture and another 7-10 days shipping to Europe that's cutting it a bit fine for delivery before EuroCON, but here's hoping it arrives in time. :fingers crossed:

Oh, for the days when you could safely send a postal order without having to worry about bank charges or hiding money inside a greetings card. :razz:

Yahoo!!!! Now to find the piece of paper with our PO Box number on it! Since we're moving on Friday we've got a PO Box for a couple months. I'm hoping the send to a PO Box! Ack! Or I'll have to wait a month to order the book. :(

Postage and Packing $5.75
Total $23.90

This is standard postage, since my Uncle decided to just up and do it himself. -Rolls eyes- So I -might- not have it by Copenhagen. :(

I went for standard postage as well. Express postage only seemed to make 3 days difference to the delivery time, compared with the 10-15 days manufacturing time I was quoted.

Then again, I might regret my decision when we get within 3 days of EuroCON...

Steven, Yes well it has been on the table as a light discussion...but I'm not to sure there would be any intrest in members wanting to buy a book with the portriats in it...as anytime a member wants to see them all they have to do is go in the lovely Gallery that Cheryl set up for them. Maybe in the future if there seems to be enough people that want something like that.

I think the portraits you're doing for the encyclopedia might be of interest to MoMers and others as well. I know there would be some legalities to work out but it's something to think about. :)

As far as doing anything with the portriats that I have done for Hans's Pern Encyclopdia, well that I will leave up to him...whenever he finishes it. Right now I am only concerned with, is doing as many of the character portriats as I can, before I am too old to hold a drawing pencil...:lol: :faint2: :lol:

I thought that you would only send me money if you weren;t at the con because you don;t have a credit card, in which case you'd pay me the money + UK postage (see Sara's post) and I would have the book delivered to your address.

:nod: What Hans said. If I have an extra for you (which I really should, even if neither Hans nor Anneli get their copies in time for the con, because I was generous in my order), then you can pay me direct for it. Else, you and Hans can work out details for him to order a copy for you.

My connection here at this apartment is iffy at best. Email is a torture to receive and send! :( And trying to navigate even MoM is frustrating and I give up most times. Got a fairly decent connection today. :) Tho I'm not sure if this will even post!
