There is no Anne contribution in volume 4 in this series but the book (published 1989) is dedicated to Robert and Ginny Heinlein and Johnny Greene: "A special memoriam to Johnny Greene, a soldier, a warrior, and one who wasn't araid to care or be a friend."
Remember; he can only be in books published after 1988 since he was killed in that year!

The blue titles need to be researched :)

Oh my gosh, that's cool but what's Chronicals of Pern - The Ford of Red Hanarhan? Never heard of it.

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

The Chronicles of Pern: First Fall contains the following stories:

The Survey: P. E. R. N.c
The Dolphin's Bell
The Ford of Red Hanrahan
The Second Weyr
Rescue Run

I just read TSW, and there's no Johnny Greene in the story that I could find, and I read it with him in mind.

Caught you, Hans! That's Golanth!!!

I'll have to reread Black Horses for the King...

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

Just imitating Anne, Brenda :) I mean, every serious list or story must a typo, right? At least I didn't put him down as a green dragon :D

But thanks :good:

Ah... at least the stories are all in one book/volume, with only The Dolphin's Bell and Rescue Run published seperately as books by Wildside Press. The other stories haven't been published as seperate books.
Anne said she included him in every book; so far (pending rereads) that's true :)

So, does this mean that Jayge should be pronounced as J-G (Jay-Gee) rather than as a single syllable (rhyming with "gage")?

That's the way I pronounce it anyway... two syllables.

Hans Mar 31 2005 01:19 AM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

Hmmm, interesting, I don't. My Jayge rhyme with cage...

Cheryl Mar 31 2005 08:55 AM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

I prounounce Jayge at the inititials J.G., and I think I've done so since before I knew the name was a tribute....

Lovely list, by the way Hans! And I can't believe you didn't catch Grenejon the first time you read No One Noticed the Cat! :faint2:

granath Mar 31 2005 01:30 PM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

I wonder if Johnny was married, and if so, what his wife's name was. I'm asking because there is a brawn named Susa Gren in The Ship Who Won, who had a sexual encounter with Keff.

Cheryl Mar 31 2005 02:25 PM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

The real John Greene was not married.

orangerider Sep 20 2005 06:47 AM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

According to Sheryl's site (that's why I couldn't believe you missed it) the Johnny Greene incarnate in RSR/Dragonseye is Golagee, a singer or Harper or whatever they were at the College. Just so you know.

Cheryl Sep 20 2005 07:40 AM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

Ah, well, I can't believe you misspelled my name, when I had a post right above yours!:O ;)

Hans Sep 20 2005 11:05 AM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

Thank you, Orangerider! :good:

You caught me blushing missing that one (while it is mentioned on my friend's site) :O

And Cheryl must forgive you for misspelling her name because she didn't mention it either :D

Cheryl, this probably happens when people think Sariel while trying to type Cheryl :D

Unregistered Sep 20 2005 11:35 PM

Oops sorry about that Cheryl. There are so many ways to spell it.
And you're welcome Hans. Glad I could help.

Hmmm, never thought of it that way... I've always pronounced it as rhyming with plague.

Jax Oct 11 2005 07:58 AM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

Didn't Anne refer to him as Jayge (like cage) in that panel she gave at the Dragoncon thing that Debbie posted for us to download and listen to?

Kesal Oct 12 2005 05:28 PM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

I always said it like Jay-gee it didn't seem right to say jage, because then there was no emphasis on the y - and if there wasn't meant to be any emphasis on the y, it probably would have been spelt Jage. This is just how I felt of course.

edith Oct 13 2005 04:48 AM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

jage sounds more rustic I suppose.

hey will Todd carry this on? is there a johnny Green in dragon's kin?

edith Oct 16 2005 11:52 AM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

sorry for double posting but noticed this the other day and had to go home to check it.

Hans why isn't Sassinak etc on the list? Dinosaur planet duo is before then but Sassinak was published 1995 I think? After 1988 anyway!

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

Whilke working on the Pern Encyclopedia I might have come across the appearance of Johnny Greene in The Masterharper of Pern: Jonno, a child at Benden Hold.

Since there's curently no better suggestion I have edited this into the list :)

Pam Mar 19 2006 01:22 AM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

There's a Jaygrin in Crystal Line.

Hans Mar 19 2006 04:18 AM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

OW, Pam! Well done! :good:

I'll add it immediately.

What would be a good blurb about what he/she is?

Pam Mar 19 2006 11:13 AM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

Jaygrin is a crystal singer, one of those who was cutting successfully from inactive singers' claims. He was part of the group Lars was trying to convince to let Donalla hypnotize them for their own coordinates. When Jayrin was told of this plan, "Killa could almost see the credits dancing in his eyes, and his smile was positively greedy."

Hans Mar 19 2006 02:04 PM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

Thanks Pam

Now this lazy guy just needs to cut 'n paste :)

Hans Mar 19 2006 02:06 PM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

Right people, any ideas for the remaining titles? Come on! :)

granath Mar 21 2006 06:57 AM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

There is a runner called Grolly at Fort Hold in Runner of Pern.

Hans Mar 21 2006 04:03 PM

 thanks, Granath!

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

I've got one!!!!
In the Mandalay Curse in The Girl who Heard dragons there is a Jay Gruen!

granath May 27 2006 12:06 AM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

Mandalay Cure, not curse, but a great find! :D

edith May 27 2006 03:23 AM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

I know! I misread the title- I was halfway through the story when I posted- and wondered where the curse was when I got to the end!

Greenrider Tresa May 27 2006 02:38 PM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

So, did you read it again, noticing all the mentions of 'cure'? :)

Topaz the Golden May 27 2006 11:08 PM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

I wonder if Todd is going to keep doing the same with Johnny Greene. I think it's a great way to extend someone's life that's has been cut short.

Hans May 28 2006 04:30 AM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

Edi, can you give a blurb as to what kind of person this is?

edith May 28 2006 04:34 AM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

Do you mind waiting till Wednesday? - I just took the book home- I think he's a marine officer or something!

Hans May 28 2006 11:31 AM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

Nope, don't mind waiting in the least. Take all the time you need.

P'ter May 28 2006 04:46 PM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

The Carradyne Touch has a "Jack Garden", and gardens are green.
Or is that cheating?

Cheryl May 28 2006 06:08 PM

Re: Johnny Greene, the list

As the Carradyne Touch preceeds the death of Johnny Greene, I don't think this was meant to be him.
