Hi! my real name is Lorna-May
But Bats has been my nick name for a very long time,I began reading Fantasy
books very late, and went to this book shop, didn't have anything new in,so
the girl said ''Have you read Anne McCaffery's books?''picked it up read the back, and said ''I've been a SF fan from the start, never have read Dragons
in them, just started Fantasys and love them'',Well thank heavens!,she lent
me her book, and I was in AWE,have everyone now
I had to retire as a nurse, had nasty fall down a gorge, learnt to use Computer
made a lot of friends,breed Budgies,have a Galah,who knows too much,one
old Himalayian cat,one Chihuahua,one Burman cat,8 KOI fish,and I'm a
die-hard David Bowie fan.

It seems, Bats, judging from your avatar, that your talents include luminescent eyes as well. It's almost mesmerising the way that the bats flashes at you.

Here's hoping it flashes more often. :erm:

Sounds like you and I are kindred spirits! I love Egypt too but luckly I did all the climbing up,in and down a couple of years ago so I don't feel that I'm missing to much when I go back!
My last two holidays ('03 & '04) were to Cairo but we're going to Tunisia this year for a poke about the Roman ruins along the Med Coast! Not that there's much left of Cartage but some of the other sites look good!
I mis-read the start your post and thought you said you'd fallen off a George!!!!
Lucky Devil I thought then read it again...Just when I was about to ask for his number!!!
:fiend:

ghyle Jan 30 2005 05:09 PM

Re: Getting to know you...

But then Gorge could be a Russian version of George, and so falling off him is more exotic, Sassie. Ooh la la! :good:

bats Jan 30 2005 07:04 PM

Re: Getting to know you...

Cheeky!! Ghyle  ,what can we do with you!!!!
Sassy the best Roman ruins are in Turkey, they haven't even scratch
the untold Roman living, and I want to go back to Egypt, even the Guide
was amazed how I sort of knew my way around, and once you get to know
the Egyptians they have a wicked sense of humour

Call me kf4uzt. Makes things simple when the FCC gives you a radio station ID... no one else ever uses it and it's always available for a user name!

Um...

Welcome to you kf4uzt I assume your a ham radio buff???

My Father has an equally incomprehensible set of id letters but there again he manages to carry on and hear conversations when all I can hear is the most horrible white noise.
I have to agree with you about ferrets, They are enchanting and full of character!
You must talk to Gyhle...He's into small furry thing although he might deny it at first! :good:
See you on the boards :D

p.s. I tend to be hit by typo gremlins a lot so bear with me please :D

Hello Everyone!

I am glad to find this wonderful board, and to see so many great Anne fans! My online name is simply translated; "Sapphire Dragon", though the spelling is a bit off. :p I also go by Saffyr, Saffy, "Mom!!!", 'hey you' and a vivid assortment of alter names, lol.

And Platinumdragon, i laughed when i read your post; my daughter is 4, a wee little Saggitarian, and i too seem to only have a repotoire of Disney and other kids shows for my entertainment these days, lol. And i thought the typo gremlins only plagued me! C'mon, we need to send a fair of firelizards after the dratted things!

I'm at home, unable to work, trying to see doctors about my health, slow that. So... limbo. I'm struggling, but getting by, trying for disability but not able to as my past doctors elected to 'loose' my medical records, charming of them eh? Much less they didnt do much for me except hand me more and more heavy painpills. So, i'm attempting to start over with fresh, and hopefully competent, medical people. (getting off my soapbox now)

In my working years, i have cashiered in retail, a pharmacy and tobacco sales, been a home healthcare provider, worked privately for people cleaning house and such, and done much kitchen work.

I've been an Anne McCaffrey fan since i first ever read Dragonflight in 1989. Got hooked all too well, and havent tried to wiggle off that hook yet, nor will i ever! My favourites are Pern, all things Pern, anything Pern, forever Pern! I'm also quite into Freedom's Landing and Choice, and can't wait to find Challenge, i am sitting on the edge of my seat for that one! The Ship Who Sang touched chords in my heart that i never realized could be, and found myself fully caught up in that series, blissfully so. The Doona series is also a great favourite, but i have also found so much treasure in Coelura and Get Of (Off) The Unicorn as well. She says so very much in those!

But i have found my Self in Dragonsong, Dragonsinger and Dragondrums. I read those for the first time in 1993 and honestly cried. Menolly's early life is just all too close to my own youth. It was a wonderful surprise and release to see those words in print and realize, even in a fictional state, that i was not alone. Thusly, Menolly and beloved Master Robinton are the most treasured of all Miss Anne's characters.

Heh, ever see a grown woman cry? Well, i most certainly did when Master Robinton passed. Now that's a character to honour: If you can honestly cry as though you'de just lost the most precious friend you have upon reading such; then Miss Anne, in my book, you are forever The Master Harper of all the Ages. And i mean that most seriously :) Thank you Miss Anne for touching my heart in so many wonderful ways!

Now i dont just read and cry all the time, lol. There are quite a few nights i have very nearly done myself a damage trying not to laugh out loud reading Miss Anne's books as my daughter was trying to sleep. Trying... opperative word some nights. :p

I cook; clean; write science fiction and some fantasy, adventure/horrors; paint; write poetry; play a bit in Furcadia; sketch (dragons mostly), and make Native American style craft and material culture. I love history, the sciences and to watch movies with my daughter. And there must always be a Tickle-War! Yes indeedy! :D Nothing makes me happier than hearing my daughter lost in a dire fit of giggles, pleading for yet more tickles. (Now if i could just get her to stop calling pickles "tickles", there we will have ended so much confusion! hehe)

As for movies and TV, when i can watch things i like, i tend towards British comedy, Mel Brookes movies and other comedies, action/adventures, Star Trek and most science fiction, fantasy and a few romantic movies. But my favouites are City of Angels and Blade Runner. And there is very little i dont watch on Discovery, PBS, Animal Planet, The Food Channel, The Learning Channel or the History Channel. I dont go in for the usual fare of sitcoms and soaps, just not my style. ;)

Nice meeting all of you, i hope to visit often!

Many happy reguards,
Saffyr

Hiya, Saffy!

Welcome aboard!

I hope that all will come well for you, and soon. The government here plans to abolish their disability support pension, single parent's pension, etc., and replace it all, excepting old age pensions and the like, with a single benefit. They aim to make the disabled look for work.

I just hope they'll still accept my plans to study.

ciao!

if they're sensible they should do...
there used to be a scheme in Britain, it didn't last very long cos people were swindling the system, where they gave grants for people doing courses.

Thanks so much C_ris, Kugai, Ghyle and Edith! :D

It's a wonderful thing to find such a lovely group of friends as this. And, i am having alot of fun! Thanks!

Kugai? Bolly? Got me confoozled there, lol. If I knew what it was i might indeed pack some along for the Gang. :D

Re: Getting to know you...

Hi, my name is really Holly and I'm from Texas. I'm a sixteen year old (seventeen March 13 woohoo!!! :D ) struggling author and beginning photographer. I love to read (especialy about dragons :) ) and really enjoy discussing the books as well as random sillyness on this site. In case anyone wonders, my screen name is actually the name of the major charactor in the novel I'm currently in the middle of writing (I love to make up the names :) ). Anyway, I love talking to ya'll, as this is pretty much the only source of intelligent conversation I have.

ghyle Feb 23 2005 05:25 PM

Re: Getting to know you...

I don't know, Levallia, intelligence from some of us is rare, especially on cold mornings before a cup of tea; I speak from personal experience.

Of course you're welcome here: you're a wonderful young lass who constantly makes this place better.

You may like to have a look at the work of J. K. Potter, for inspiration for your photography; he's brilliant!

Fare thee well, sweet maid,
your post this day has made.

Re: Getting to know you...

Hello All! My name is Barb and I am very glad to have found this board!

I live in Beautiful Bucks County, Pennsylvania with a DH and a WIP garden :tilt: .

I read avidly, cook with more enthusiasm than skill, play whenever I can, and type v e r r y slowly. Dressage and sailing are my avocations, but database management pays the bills.

I came to the Pern books in the early eighties and usually re-read them once each year. I'm so glad that the saga will continue. I keep hoping that I will finally find a favourite!

Re: Getting to know you...

Welcome aboard, Ferngale!

Put up your feet and stay
a while, take the chance to play
a while, and maybe even smile
a while, and even do
a poll or two.

As for a favourite Pern book, why not all of them?

Hiya Barb/Ferngale! I have cousins in Bucks County. Welcome to MoM! :)

ferngale Feb 28 2005 02:39 PM

Re: Getting to know you...

Thank you all for your kind words.

Sorry about the confusing shorthand. Picked it up from other boards. DH is "Dear Husband", DW(ife), DD(aughter), DS(on), etc. WIP is "Work In Progress". Then again what garden is not?

I gather that there are a few on this board from the Mid-Atlantic area, which at this moment is expecting eight inches of snow or more. Lucky us!

"Ferngale" is a nod to the town I live near - the mighty metropolis of Ferndale and the fact that we hold on a very windy hill. Corny I know, but I like it.

So, see you around the rooms, and again thank you for making me feel so welcome.
