Names for each series?

I know that Dragonsong, Dragonsinger & Dragondrums make up the Harper Hall Trilogy, and Dragonflight, Dragonquest & The White Dragon make up the Dragonriders of Pern Trilogy, but are there any names for the others? Here's my thoughts, have a read and tell me what you think.

The omnibus books group several books under the same name, and this could easily be stretched to cover a trilogy. On Dragonwings doesn't quite work, as it contains Dragonsdawn, Red Star Rising & Moreta. However, two other omnibuses released later work better. "Dragonrider's Dawn" contains Dragonsdawn and First Fall, and "Moreta's Ride", the other, contains Moreta and Nerilka's Story.

With these titles, you could use "Moreta's Ride Trilogy" to refer to the aforementioned two, and Beyond Between. The (chronologically speaking) first three books could easily be grouped together under any of three names; Dragonrider's Dawn, On Dragonwings, or The Colonist Trilogy. The first seems a less likely choice, as it is too similar to the first book. On Dragonwings might be better suited, as it was used already, despite the name being better suited for Moreta. Finally, the Colonist Trilogy is a basic description of events.

Now for the Third Pass. So far, this hasn't been grouped. It is easy to just group them all into one large group (Third Pass), but considering the book count is heading upwards of six, it might make more sense to divide them up. The (chronologically) first three books, Dragon's Fire, Dragon's Kin & Dragon Harper, fit together the best under the name Third Pass Trilogy, because each book covers different events following different characters. This is in contrast to Dragonsblood, Dragonheart & Dragongirl, which all cover an event that can easily become their title; Dragon Plague Trilogy. However, considering each of the so-called "Third Pass" stories, in fact, take place during the Second Interval, this might need a different name. Of course, with more books on their way, there may need to be another Trilogy (Restoration Trilogy?), or maybe even one long Octilogy?

Masterharper and Gift Of Dragons seem to be excempt, but they easily sit on their own as standalone books.

Finally, we come to the closing books of the Ninth Pass. The difficult thing is deciding where to divide, as they are all fairly well connected. Renegades and All The Weyrs are almost part one and two of the same book, and Dolphins is a spin-off, and Skies follows on, despite being several years later. However, one could easily make the divide there, placing Renegades, All The Weyrs & Dolphins into the "AIVAS Trilogy", or the "Rediscovery Trilogy". Skies of Pern can be grouped with After The Fall, when it comes up, and that will need a name that isn't a trilogy; instead a series.

So that makes:

On Dragonwings Trilogy (DD, FF, DE/RSR)
(Third Pass) Trilogy (DF, DK, DH)
Dragon Plague Trilogy (DB, DH, DG)
Moreta's Ride Trilogy (M, NS, BB)
Dragonriders Of Pern Trilogy (DF, DQ, WD)
Harper Hall Trilogy (DS, DS, DD)
(AIVAS) Trilogy (ROP, ATWOP, DOP)
(???) Series (SOP, ATF)
Standalone Books (MHOP, GOD)

Hopefully, that makes the books easier to group/sort. Any thoughts on this?

I agree that ATWP, SOP & DOP can be grouped together. I like the name rediscovery trilogy for them.

his is Re: Pern Book, Short Story, and Miscellany List
You'll find that sometimes folks will abbreviate the book titles when referring to them. Although we encourage folks to write out title so that they are clear to all, the following is a list of acronyms you might come across or wish to use. A good practice is to write out the title in full the first time you use it, and subsequently in the post to abbreviate it. Some of the first published books have more than one standard abbreviation, which are separated by commas in the list.

Re: Names for each series?

There's also going to be Todd's Dragongirl to be coming out soon.

Chronologically, there's a bit of overlap in a number of chapters in several books that Todd did in the Third Pass. I'm given to calling the Third Pass books "Pern's Dark Ages" as this seems to be the period that much of Pern's technology and some of their history gets lost and distorted.

(not everything needs to be grouped as "trilogies";))

How true I think of Mor - Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern
NS, Ner - Nerilka's Story as take from many points of view, the second one from a minor person, who become a in my opinion a Major part of things.
