Weyr Book of Ista

I've never been a super serious collector or completist.(single mom,and darn those kids expect to be fed more than once a day!)

I own all the series in hardcover. And I have the companion books. And both role playing games the Mayfair and Nova.

But never was interested in multiple editions etc. Which is probably a good thing since I married a man two years ago with 3,000 books.

Any way I've had art projects for years in various stages. And The Weyrbook of Ista had the colors for various holds/crafthalls.
Cheryl was kind enough to post a list of the major years ago(2005)
So I dropped her a note asking if she could send along the info for the minor.

So while surfing the other day I put in Weyr Book of Ista and I found an ebay listing!! Sooo I have my very own copy, that arrived today

A treasure trove of info. I'm going to be one happy, busy camper.:bouncy:

That is lovely, Kat. From one non-serious collector to another I know what you mean. Lately I've been more about what can I get rid of than what can I get more of!!

Wow, a great find because they are not often for sale and are usually expensive. This copy could not have found a better home!

 I didn't say it wasn't expensive... well to me it was but I have a lovely, adoring husband who spoils me. :D
Not to mention he's got his own habit (modeling..resin models are rarely cheap)He's currently on his fourth attempt at scratch building the book version of Jules Vernes Nautilus.

But it definitely found a good home and I'll be spending many happy hours perusing it.(because there's so much info... and the print is small)

I know the feeling, I'm waiting on how to fund something, that I can use to reading more information.

Re: Weyr Book of Ista

I've just seen a post on one of the AMC facebook groups that posted the section of the Weyr Book of Ista that deals with shoulder knots - including the detailed instructions for braiding them. Wow! What a cool resource! [edit - I've figured out that they got them via Cheryl  ]

I've also just realised that the canonised threadfall charts in Dragonsdawn and elsewhere that oblige dragons to fly faster than the speed of sound in order to fight a full threadfall (Ista's bronzes are the fastest on Pern! Why? Because there're more miles between every line of longitude at that latitude, so they sharding well HAVE to be...) are the creation of the Alms, not Anne herself. I feel better about ignoring those impossible details now...

Kat (or anyone else with a copy): any chance you could tell us what other little titbits of information/fill-in-the-gaps worldbuilding are squirreled away in there that we don't see in the novels themselves?

We also hear about the cords of the Runners in short story Runners of Pern. And for what its worth, I'm a lefty that did some braiding. ;)
