Retirement good.

Mom woke up this morn not feeling right, dizy light headed, off balance. Took her to hospital about 11:00 am had to wait until around 3:30 to be taken to the back to see Dr. She did not see Dr. until aound 4:00. She had CAT scan and blood. Her sugar was way up. Nothing else showed up. She was feeling better but still not right. He gave her a choice of staying or not. With her balance and still not feeling right, we talked it over and decided that she would be off staying there. I will bring her home tomorrow.

It was very windy from about 3 to 5 this morning. Nothing compared to the storms that I understand have hit other parts of the country in the last day or two.

I'm glad your mom is feeling better.

Thanks, everyone. Oh, we'll be having a great time together! As soon as we get a few loose ends wrapped up here, we're hitting the road. We're heading south in our home on wheels towards warmer temperatures!! But I'll still be checking in here!

Wishing everyone warmer weather soon.

Surviving this school year and hoping that the causes of this freking school year stop being pains or move on. I would like to have a respite from character building.

Re: What is happening

I baked chocolate chip brownies for the "kids" to take to the Super Bowl (I prefer to call it the 'Stupor Bowl') party they are going to. And so that Jeff would not be too sad I baked him some dark chocolate brownies of his own.

I will not be watching the madness, either game or commercials or half-time. Instead, I will be calling a very dear friend and having a nice long chat! :D

mawra Feb 3 2013 01:10 PM

Re: What is happening

I am not watching Superbowl either. Hubby will be in his room watching it. He has a much larger TV than anyone else. No will bother him while he watches it.

I had a wonderful two hour long talk on the phone with a friend. Physical distance means nothing when there's a lot in common and lots to talk about! :D Then I got off the phone and emailed them some pictures as well as a link to today's Doonesbury cartoon, because it was fabulous and says it all! :good:

Re: What is happening

I did not watch the Superbowl. I did watch the Puppy Bowl.

The Puppy Bowl is a show using puppies from shelters. They are playing on a foot ball looking area. With commontary on what each is doing. The half time show is kittens playing. There were hedge hog cheer leaders and hamster in an over head blimp. They were all cute and all are animals up for adoption.

Hear hear!

I should have been in South Africa in March and April but the trip was cancelled. So I would at least have missed part of the winter.
Now we'll be leaving near the end of October instead and be there in their spring.

Re: What is happening

I just saw a weather report saying that we're likely to get hit by a Nor'easter this weekend. I definitely live in the zone where they are saying we'll get more than a foot of snow. Apparently there are some places that can expect to get more than two feet of snow.

Something tells me, I'm probably going to end up doing a lot of shoveling this weekend. My sympathies to anyone else in New England that going to get affected by the storm.

Priscilla Feb 6 2013 02:13 PM

Re: What is happening

We have a guy who comes and plows but there will also be some shoveling in my future as well. At the moment the storm models have us in the 3 to 6" range. Well, it's winter I guess we should expect it! :erm:

Well, come the 18th or 19th of this month, we're heading south for the rest of the winter and early spring!! Woohoo!!! We'll spend the next 2 or 3 months in Saint Marys, GA!! I can definitely live with that!!

Nemo is coming...i hope I have the strength to get up and shovel in the morning, because the last two days at work have me exhausted! We got SLAMMED. Ran out of some things, too, which some people complained about. Well, duh! Say the word 'snow" and about half the population panics like they've never lived through a blizzard before. (Anyone who has lived here more that five years HAS) We may get up to a foot and a half... let you know tomorrow when it's over.

Re: What is happening

We have a long driveway that comes off a shared (with 3 other houses) driveway. Fortunately for us when we moved here almost 6 years ago the fellow who'd been plowing our old (long) driveway was willing to come here and do the common drive and ours. Especially with how wet and heavy this snow seems to be here at least, I would not want to try and shovel much. We'll still have to do a little, but there's four of us to share the load. Take that shoveling slow, AnnMarie, it's a lot of hard work and not good for the back and other areas of the body!

It looks like the end of the long wait for the "short sell" of the condo I am buying is coming to an end. Tomorrow I meet the inspector there for the inspection then met with my loan agent to turn the final papers in for my first home loan. I hope we will be moved in before the end of March preferabley early March.

I've calendared 5 of my 6 IEPs due before the 4th week of March. Now to write them and check my data on my students. Oh, I still need to pack my house up. :erm::eek:

Re: What is happening

As I'm typing right now, the winds have really picked up, and I don't have any idea how much snow has fallen to this point, but definitely a few inches. I'm in an area that's going to be one of the last places to get hit from larger parts of the storm, and my area is still under a winter storm warning until 7pm Saturday, so I probably won't know any totals until Sunday.

Re: What is happening

We have a lot here, and it's still coming down. The wind howled last night so I expect there is also major drifting. The "kids" say they are going to make a toboggan run in the back yard and use their boogie boards on it. That should be interesting. No, I will not be going down it. I prefer all my bones unbroken.

Good luck, and for those on the east coast of US stay safe!

Thank Moonlady, I'm doing much better, I just hope what happened to my pinky is happening now, not as bad, but I'm seeing that its not working as well, I shall keep you folk posted.

Good luck moving, Moonlady.

Heard Nemo was not as bad in many places as they thought but that Boston had 150 cm of snow. Can't they shove it in the harbour and have an ice tea party?

Good luck to all of your shovelers on the east coast! We had a mere dusting of snow yeterday. It's virtually gone now.

Priscilla Feb 10 2013 07:18 AM

Re: What is happening

We had 26" on the level and drifts much higher. We shoveled out the garage doors yesterday but we have someone plow the rest. Unfortunately all the roads were closed yesterday by the governor so no one could get anywhere to start plowing. That means we wait.

These last few days have been cloudy, overcast, cold days here in southern Missouri. We had a little rain Thursday, dry Friday and Saturday, and rain today that started after dark last night. Still wet but warmer now.

Hans: Ice tea party..... LOVE IT!!!!!

Re: What is happening

I'm now making chain maille jewelry. I'm still in the process of learning different weaves, but right now I only have 7 mm rings to work with. I've already made a necklace out of stainless steel rings. It's about 22 or 23 inches long. Roughly 20 inches of it is box chain weave, and the rest, along with the pendant drop, is Byzantine weave. I put an agate pendant on it. It has approximately 500 rings in it.

I've also made 2 bracelets that are about 8 inches each, in Byzantine weave. Both are silver- and gold-plated rings. One is silver and gold, the other is gold and silver. In other words, the predominate colors are reversed between the two. Each one probably has a bit over 200 rings in it.

I started on another piece in a new weave called Dragonback (I thought that might get your attention). It starts with a weave that was actually used for the old chain maille armor, called European 4-1. I made a strip about 10-1/2 inches long to start. After attaching the first row of rings that turns E 4-1 into Dragonback, it shortened the strip down to just a fraction over 8 inches. So instead of a necklace, I think I'm making another bracelet. I'm using the 7mm stainless rings for this, and plan to put some gold colored beads on the last row that will be the dragon's spine. I'm making all these to sell, of course. After I finish this Dragonback bracelet I'll get some pics and post them over in the crafts section like I did when I started the scroll saw art pieces.

Can't wait to see these! I love craft work. So much more personal and original than stuff stamped out by the millions in some other country.

Re: What is happening

We got about 2 feet of snow. It's really hard to tell since the wind blew so much of it around. I think I saw some snow totals from other places in New England that got close to 3 feet.

Fortunately, at least for my area, the snow was pretty light and fluffy, so there wasn't any trouble shoveling off our front porch.

We lost our cable and our Internet for most of the day yesterday, so we missed all the reports from around New England on the Weather Channel, but we didn't lose our power.

Centrol Va got very little snow, at least in my part. Not far away a snow plow over turned.

Kibby has decided she study photography in college. She looking at a couple of different schools. Next year she will be going to 2 year college to take some math classes that she needs and a couple of photophgraphy classes.

We went to a finiacal aid workshop and she won a free 3 credit class she is going to use to take a photography class. She wants to traval and likes taking pictures, so she wants to compine the two. I hope it works out for her.

Kibby is one 10 senior 4H for out county to go to a day at the capitol tomorrow. They will get to meet Cambell County's state rep. as well as get tour of the capitol and justice building all for free. They even get 10 dollars for lunch. She is excited about going.

We ended up with 4" from Nemo. Nothing big, and it was powder here, as well. The wind was my problem...blew out the pilot light on my furnace. I forgot how to relight it safely. Good thing I got a smart kid brother!
