Bigger Avatar ?

Cheryl, is there anyway to make some of the small avatars like mine bigger? Yours and Hans and some others have bigger pictures. Is there a way to make mine a little larger like yours? I just finished it and the firelizard looks like a firefly instead. Is it something that I am doing wrong, like usual!!! Or is it just the program I am using, or the size of my original work? Gee! I got to get out the magnifier to see it.. .. tell me if I can do something about it, or do I have to squint:faint2:

P.S. I hope that I am not being a total pain in the derriere :sorry:

Re: Bigger Avatar ?

The size limit for avatars is 80x80 pixels. Since your new avatar is taller than it is wide, it comes out as 80x57 which looks smaller than those of us who have square avatars. If you crop your original picture square, then the final avatar will be a bit larger.

P.S. You're not! And I'd like to see the full size version of your new avatar - you're quite the artist!

Re: Bigger Avatar ?

It looks good.
is there any way you can post it in the cafe or something so everyone can c it in all its glory?

Re: Bigger Avatar ?

I don't know how to do a post like that, the ones like when we got to see your dragon or Hans holiday meal. That is way beyond what I know how to do right now.
But thank you for the interest in it, it took me about two and a half days on it to get the colors just right. But it is a little different how they look on here as to how they look in your hands. You loose a lot of detail on here, and vivid colors work much better that soft or light colors. Or at least so far with my limited knowledge of the computer

Hans Jan 17 2006 03:59 AM

Re: Bigger Avatar ?

Well, you know how to send files/documents to me now. So send me the bigger version of the avatar, too and I'll post it for you.

Cheryl and I wondered whether it was a self portrait?

edith Jan 17 2006 04:01 AM

Re: Bigger Avatar ?

When you post theres a little button at the top with a picture on it of what looks like a mountain. That's the image button.
I don't know if you can upload it directly from your PC (the fire lizard was the 1st time I've tried) but if you have something like a photobucket account, you put the URL between the brackets and your image should appear!
hope i've been some help!
edi

Re: Bigger Avatar ?

Hmm... good idea Edith. Maelin, I wrote something up for Kater when she asked how to post pictures in here, go here to read it: http://forums.srellim.org/showthread.php?t=1881

A nice added feature of photobucket is that it will automatically shrink your pic if the one you are trying to upload is too big. I say this because the ones you sent me were big, which is a good thing when you need to work with them but not if you only want to post/show them online :)

Re: Bigger Avatar ?

Hans, I have a question? Do you have to be on a thread to post the picture? You know like I am right now while I am writing this to you, so that you have a place to drop it in?

The picture is of "Lady Maelin", if it looks like me a few years back, that is because when you are an artist you don't need a doctor to make you look younger. You can take care of age all by yourself, and it's a lot cheaper too!

Edi, Thank you for trying to help me with my picture. I will give it a try and see what happens.Hopefully soon I will know more of what I am doing. Oh well here goes!!! (hand over my eyes while puching a button, and holding my breath).

I love that picture so much, it is the wallpaper on my computer. :)

Re: Bigger Avatar ?

how come that doesn't surprise me!

I really should change mine!

Its a black and white picture of some cybermen in front of St Pauls Cathedral!

One problem, the bottom of the lead cyberman's zip is in a really dubious place... and lets say that the crotch of his trousers is a leetle too tight!

I didn't notice this until it was blown up to wallpaper size!

Beautiful, Maelin, just beautiful! I hearby nominate you to create the next People of Pern (not that I have any authority to do so, but  to that).

Lady Maelin Jan 17 2006 05:20 PM

Re: Bigger Avatar ?

I have often thought of doing some more of the Charactors of Pern, just for the fun of it, maybe some others too!

Re: Bigger Avatar ?

Simply beautiful Lady M!

May I venture to guess that you used pencils for this?

Have you ever experimented much with watercolour pencils?

Hans Jan 18 2006 02:34 AM

Re: Bigger Avatar ?

Like the others said: beautiful. I love it! Pity I don't roleplay cause this Harper could easily fall in love with the Lady Maelin :D

I'm also glad the posting succeded. Also means you figured out what you needed to gigire out; so you rock both ways! :good:

Re: Bigger Avatar ?

WOW, I am blushing all the way to my toes. Thank you so very much for the wonderful praise. I have always wanted to have a firelizard and live on Pern, anyone want to join me? I would have benn a painting harper if I was there. Maybe not a Master but hopefully a good journeyman. OOOh I just thought of a great thread. See you in the other room fellow Pernese!!!

Lady Maelin Jan 18 2006 04:50 PM

Re: Bigger Avatar ?

Ghyle, Thank you for the nice words, no I don't use water-color pencils. Just regular ones, on this. I use acrylics, on many things when I paint.

Lady Maelin Jan 18 2006 04:52 PM

Re: Bigger Avatar ?

Edi, Thank you for all of your help, it was really hard to figure out at first, but Hans letter to Kater, where he sent me is what worked, the man is a genius!!!

Purty pictures! Have you any more?

Lady Maelin Jan 19 2006 10:36 PM

Re: Bigger Avatar ?

Ghyle, Yes a whole house full, but they are all much to big to get on the machine. You will just have to use your imagination about the rest of it, until I find someone to put it into the computer. I need to figure out who does that out here, professionaly speaking I mean. Do you have any ideas of the kind of place that does that kind of thing? Send me a PM if you think of anything.

ghyle Jan 20 2006 12:54 AM

Re: Bigger Avatar ?

Not professionally, but have you tried using a digital camera to take a picture of the artwork? It's an extension of doing so for a portable portfolio: when originals can't do, photos must.

Lady Maelin Jan 20 2006 10:27 PM

Re: Bigger Avatar ?

Ghyle, yes I have, but they take such bad pictures. They doin't get close enough to get the detail, you will se what I mean soon. I have to have them photoed with a regular camera, with a real good lens, sharp, and clear. Soon my friend soon...:shhh: :bouncy:

I can hardly wait, Lady M (does the 'M' stand for 'Magnificent'?)!

Normally I would say you could be Sir Maudling, GHyle, but in this case... :)

Re: Bigger Avatar ?

If you use a film camera in this country you can get a CD-ROM of your prints-they might be useful! I've done it a couple of times with films with photo's that I want to pass about, or you can scan prints easily!

Hans Jan 21 2006 11:58 AM

Re: Bigger Avatar ?

Yes! Lots of shops do that here, too :)

Brenda Jan 21 2006 05:58 PM

Re: Bigger Avatar ?

Unless you have a really good telephoto lens, your typical point-and-shoot camera is not going to be able to focus on a picture unless it's several feet away.

Anneli Jan 21 2006 06:12 PM

Re: Bigger Avatar ?

Absolutely Fantastic Lady Maelin :D

You should send a copy to Anne, I'm sure she'd be really interested to see it.

As for your other artwork, it depends on the size. If it's no bigger than A4 paper size, then you can get a scanner and scan it onto your computer very easily. I don't know if you have a scanner or what they cost in the US, but the're not very expensive here in Europe. I would love to see them :good:

Edi,
This is a great idea, the ones I have pictures of I did with a thirty five millimeter camera. It did great, we fixed up a booth with lots of light and it did pretty good, I had to have slides for shows. It wouldn't get them on the computer back then only onto paper or slide film, but now, yes I could have them put on a disc.

Thank you Edi, thank you. that is a great idea:good: :good: :good:

Brenda,
I have taken them with a regular 35m camera for years. It did pretty good, I would have the film put into slide form, to be able to enter art shows. Truly it did a great job. But now I want to get the pictures on the computer, so that they can be seen. I did load those old photos onto the computer by scaning them and it has worked pretty good as you will see.
