Talents - Sims 2 Style!

Okay. So, I got the Sims 2, only years after everyone else. (My old PC could barely handle the original Sims!). And like any proper fangirl, I promptly made a Talented family. In particular, the Raven-Lyon family.

Meet Afra!

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/afra1.jpg

He is *considerably* greener than I imagine him, but this was the nicest green-tone skin I found.

He looks a bit pensive; I suspect someone is speaking to him telepathically.

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/afra2.jpg

Here's another one, with a little more smile.

Where there's Afra, of course there is also Damia.

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/damia1.jpg

Excuse the hair; I'm still trying to find a female black hair with a single white stripe that doesn't look retarded.

And here's some of the sprogs...

Isthian, looking considerably cuter than I ever imagined him. But he's genetically the son of the Afra and Damia sim--I didn't muck around with his face in bodyshop. Afra and Damia must have good genes.

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/isthian1.jpg

I plan to get a pic of him that's not shot at night. Also, one where he's smiling. The hair I altered myself to add the white stripe. Alas, male hair, at least this one, is far easier to edit than any of the female ones.

Here's Rojer, who's currently a teen:

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/rojer1.jpg

He thinks the family car is pretty awesome, and wanted it in the shot with him.

I've made six of the eight children, mostly because the game can only handle having 8 family members, which means poor Ewain and Petra got left out, at least until I manage to get Rojer and Laria out of the house, but I'm mostly dissatisfied with how the girls are coming out, so no closeups today. (It's that darn hair...it's not right. :( )

I assume Damia is saying here something along the lines of "Stick it where the sun doesn't shine!" but I don't have the foggiest what provoked it!

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/sun.jpg

Afra's either A) playing along, or B) actually fed up with her.

Later on, Afra cornered Thian in a bar, and started to lecture him on aspects of love.

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/at1.jpg

Afra recommends some good books that he used himself way back in the day. The Kama Sutra, is, after all, a classic. (Hey, I just realized Afra's first lover was named Kama! And she "instructed" him in acts of love. I can't believe I didn't pick that up before!)

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/at3.jpg

Thian, however, is bored to tears, and has no qualms about nodding off right in front of his dad.

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/at2.jpg

Afra saunters off--his work here is done! Thian has been fully embarrassed in front of the bartender and any other sim in the room.

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/at4.jpg

More pics to come, later. :D

Lovely! Damia's a bit more dish-faced than I imagine her, but I like these!

Re: Talents - Sims 2 Style!

LOL Don't worry, I still haven't purchased Sims 2 yet. It's on my wish list but *shrug* who knows what Santa will send me ;)

I like the work that you have done there! That first pic makes Isthian look like a bit of a bruiser, but definitely a hottie.

Have just seen an ad for SimCity Societies ....... maybe one that has been inputted with the morals and values of the Talents could be made.

D. M. Domini Nov 18 2007 09:35 AM

Re: Talents - Sims 2 Style!

Yeaaaah, I'm not fully satisfied with Damia either. :-/

Isthian *just* got out of the teen stage, so I figure he's still a bit teenish in his ways. I didn't want him to be nothing more than a slightly differently colored Afra. He'll probably lose the beard by the time he becomes Earth Prime.

More pics soonish...I'm moving today, so yeah. I shouldn't be playing with my dolls. :D

That's hilarious! Unfortunately, my laptop won't play the Sims game I have that I got last birthday...-Sniffle- But it was a cool idea to get the family in! -Nodnod-

Re: Talents - Sims 2 Style!

Here's a few of the girls. I'm sure you can see why I'm unhappy with them. They need better hair.

This is Zara (not the Rowan, as you might have guessed--Rowan hasn't been made in-game yet). She's compared to the Rowan in the books, so my mental picture of her actually has her inheriting the full head of silvery hair, although I don't actually think that's the case. She's a teen, so she doesn't quite look like she will when she grows up.

That's not a gun she's holding, mind you. It's the control for a toy racecar. (Behind her, you can see Shirtless!Afra, and her brother Thian staring at the wall.)

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/zara1.png

Here's Zara and Laria in a pillow fight. Yah, hair issues on Laria there. Too many stripes! And I'm unsure why they're pillow fighting in their undies.

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/lz1.png

Here's Kaltia. Faced with a white stripe, she decided to dye it pink instead, and added a few more for good measure.

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/kaltia1.png

Kaltia was hungry, but none of the adults were up to cook for her, so she made a gigantic muffin in her easy bake oven, and it's burned, so she's a wee bit upset. (She eats it anyway.)

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/kaltia2.png

And here's a few for the Afra Fan Club--half naked Afra, cooking! Woo!

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/acooking1.png

Now, what ingredients go in omlettes? And will this be anywhere enough for my entire gigantic brood of a family?

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/acooking2.png

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/acooking3.png

I think he's noticed us droo--er, watching. Hi Afra! (Isn't that shy little smile adorable?)

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/acooking4.png

Side note: in my game, Afra has the most appalling laugh. Thian, unfortunately, inherited it. It's like they spontaneously go through puberty when laughing--it's loud and obnoxious!

These are great! :) I would get the game, but I'm still half-afraid it would be all scrunched down and hard to see on my laptop. Which was the case with my first SimCity game on my first laptop. Suppose I could try again though, since this one has a larger screen and more memory.

Re: Talents - Sims 2 Style!

If it helps anyone, I currently am running the game on an AMD 64 3500 with integrated graphics (ie, no separate video card) and 1G of RAM, 128mb of which I've assigned to graphics only. You can get new laptops that are better than my desktop.

Here's Thian smiling!

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/isthian2.png

And here he's obviously practicing a wise and educated pensive look for when he becomes Earth Prime.

Wow they're cool! Although I think this thread should be in the Exhibit Hall. It doesn't matter that you used the Sims engine to make them, rather than make them from scratch.

As per the books, Kaltia has very white skin and the yellow eyes of her father. Afra really is droolworthy!

Meet Jeff Raven, Earth Prime, and one of the strongest Prime Talents in the Nine Star League:

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/jeff1.png

Jeff likes to dance.

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/jeff2.png

In his underwear.

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/jeff3.png

In front of a gigantic glass window. You'd think, being Earth Prime, he would know better.

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/jeff4.png

Ouch, that's gotta hurt the ego, when your wife points and laughs.

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/rowan2.png

By the way--meet The Rowan:

Really like the beautiful Rowan :bouncy:

Go, Rowan :bouncy:

Jeff does not have charisma enough for me, sorry :D

Re: Talents - Sims 2 Style!

Yeah, that's the downside of using the Sims--they all have slightly vacant looks to their faces. Afra's supposed to be good at hiding his emotions, so it doesn't hurt him too much, I figure he walks around looking vaguely pleasant most of the time, but it's hard to put Jeff's personality into his face. Also, there's a decided personality shift in the books with Jeff--he's much more playful and charismatic in the earlier books, and becomes more like Reidinger after he becomes Earth Prime. It's a bit easier to make him look dignified than charismatic, so that's what I was aiming for.

Well, sorta. Kinda.

I guess the dancing isn't all that dignified. Hee hee.

My Jeff looks like F'lar's brother with blue eyes--they're different in personality, but mentally they look the same in my head, since they're described in similar ways in the books. Jeff isn't supposed to be particularly handsome (nor is F'lar), and he is supposed to have strong facial features. So I made his face sort of angular, but not as looong as Afra's.

Nina Nov 23 2007 01:45 PM

Re: Talents - Sims 2 Style!

I'll go for the later dignified Jeff face, but it is a bit hard as he looks so young in body and clothing. Somehow I cannot make it fit. Young means the young Jeff to me.

Anyway it must be fun to create all the figures and think of details and frustrating to have limits.

I am sure that you are having fun :) It shows :D

Nice. And the dancing might work for a very young Jeff... hmm, wonder if someone could get him drunk! Kidding.

Re: Talents - Sims 2 Style!

 :ugg: How very....interestingly you've spent your time in Sims 2 :)

Very creative I must say. Just a few nit-piks if I may....

Afra's skin looks a bit too dark green....more like he's the product of his mother's affair with the Jolly Green Giant....

Thian's hair colour is wrong, it should be quite a bit lighter, almost a mid brownish to light brown colour...

Other than that I find them quite hilarious and would love to see the looks on their faces if they could see these representations of themselves ....wouldn't that be a hoot?

Very good effort my friend....

D. M. Domini Dec 16 2007 12:56 AM

Re: Talents - Sims 2 Style!

Yeah, like I said in my first post, Afra's skintone is much, much greener than I envision in my head. But all of the light green skintones I've seen are flat and ugly. This one is a skin by "Louis" who has a pretty darn nice line of skins. So I ended up choosing quality over accuracy. And I'm not good enough to modify it to suit my needs; I had a hard enough time putting a single white stripe into the male's hair! Noooot touching skins yet.

As for Thian's hair being black rather than brown--which book has his hair color? I know Kaltia is specified to be blond like her father, but I assumed everyone else (except for Ewan, who I picture blond as well) to have the Gwyn-Raven black-with-white-stripe. (Okay, and maybe except for Zara, who I think could possibly have a full head of white hair a la her grandmother although there is no hard-core evidence in the books.) I think Petra and Laria are specified to have black hair with white stripes, and the rest were left up in the air for the most part.

I think the whole Gwyn/Raven/Lyon clan would find us vaguely creepy if they knew we were making virtual dolls out of them. ;) I probably would be on the top of the "creepy-stalker-type" list, given I both play with them as Sims and write fanfic.

Re: Talents - Sims 2 Style!

Porta, These are indeed very interesting to see...it does show how much you enjoy your sims...and it I played with them too...I would indeed put the characters I loved the most into the game. I really doubt that I would do nearly as well as you have done...!!!
As far as the more correct colors are concerned well this is your imagination...so you can do what you want with it.

If it was possible though.... I would agree with Max, and try to change a few of the colors to better suit Anne's vision of characters in the books.

Re: Talents - Sims 2 Style!

I wasn't happy with Damia from before, so I redid her, and like it a bit better:

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/damia2.png

One tip for playing The Sims 2 - don't have huge families. Trying to recreate the Raven-Lyon household sucks. It doesn't allow you to have 8 sims at one time, but that's probably so you don't kill yourself out of frustration. Just when I managed to get, say, Laria and Thian in a good mood, Rojer and Zara would start failing school in a big way. So I broke out my Lyons into separate families, which then made room for Ewain and Petra. Here's Ewain, as a teen:

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/ewain1.png

And, against my own advise, I attempted to make a lighter greentone skin for Afra. I don't really like it, but here's what it looks like on him:

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/lightskinafra1.png

It pretty much lost its character (the skin). As a comparison, here's that first pic again (sorry, the light's different):

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/afra2.jpg

I did put blush on Afra with the darker skin, just to give him a touch of pink, but it looked bad on the light green skin so I left it out on that one. I also removed the blond stubble.

So yeah. That's why I keep the darker skin on Afra, despite it being too dark for canon...it just looks better, in my eyes, at least. :)

I still have to show you all Petra, but I'll have to do that later, since I'm due to watch The Golden Compass with a friend.

:ROFL!!: :shriek: Oh, this is just hilarious. Thank you for posting this...I wish I had gotten here sooner. I think you've got a good sense of the character traits (:erm: even if they don't show up just right in the game.) I have to say the dancing with Jeff is amazing! :haha: I could picture a bit of that happening in Rowan's lofty apartment. :teehee: Not bad hair on the Rowan either, btw. But, geez...those muscles! I like the ones of Afra with his shirt off making the omelets. Right on. I wish I could see more of Afra in the character though. Those muscles kill me. haha.

Re: Talents - Sims 2 Style!

My sims dress--or undress--as they will. With such a big family I try to keep them having a nice wardrobe, but what parts of it they wear is up to them, lol.

(For those of you who saw the piccies vanish for a while...sorry. Just got set up on my new webhost. For those who are looking for one, Drak.net is hands-down the best host I've seen, and I used to WORK for a webhost (not Drak.net, though.))

I should have more Talent pics soon. I might throw in a few Pern folks, too...just trying to find some nice hair and clothing for the Masterharper.

Re: Talents - Sims 2 Style!

Been reading through this thread, and I had a good giggle. I am most unashamebly a Sims2 fan myself - in fact I may vanish off and play it today, LOL. A little while back I did post something about maybe doing the Pern characters (as in the ones seen in People of Pern) for Sims2 - creating the faces is not hard, and you can download different bodytypes as well - (hey, Portalvast Magus is it beosboxboy's body mesh you are using on the guys?)

The only reason I didn't do it; clothes and the weyr/hold would be difficult (but not impossible) to create... and I kind of want to put the time into other things... but it is fun reading through all this, and seeing what's being done :good:

D. M. Domini Jan 21 2008 12:23 PM

Re: Talents - Sims 2 Style!

Yeah, I'm a sucker for the beosboxboy slim bodybuilder mesh. (or, I think maybe it's technically marvine's? Did I spell that right?) And I love the patterned shirts that someone did for them!

Pernish stuff is difficult to find, you'd have to just stick them in medieval gear, some other sort of gear, or make it yourself. Thus the reason none of my photos have random Pern people wandering into them yet.

I found some nice hair for F'lar and F'lessan yesterday, though...

I got Sims2 finally, but it doesn't seem to like my laptop... :;sigh:; I can deal with the sort of ghosting my mouse does, but it took to closing on its own after a few minutes the third time I ran it.

Re: Talents - Sims 2 Style!

How old is your laptop? If it's too old it might not run (thus my own upgrade from a 800MHz PIII to a 2.2GHz AMD 64 3500). Or you might need more memory.

Greenrider Tresa Jan 21 2008 08:49 PM

Re: Talents - Sims 2 Style!

Two years. And I did upgrade memory, I've got a whole gig of RAM out of 34. Maybe it's something to do with the fact I also have SimCity Societies. :;shrug::

Cameo!

Cameo! (Although, WTF is he wearing??)

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/robinton1.png

He knows I'm not entirely sure of how he turned out (at the very least, I need new clothes and hair), but he's trying to charm me into keeping him.

"Look at me...you wouldn't garbage bin a nice old man like me, would you? Hey, have you ever tried your hand at music?"

Or perhaps mis-direction...

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/robinton2.png

"Look!"

Me: "Where?"

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/robinton3.png

"Over there!"

Me: "Where? I don't see anything...was it a dragon?"

http://www.dmdomini.com/talents/robinton4.png

He looks entirely too pleased with himself. I wonder what sort of trick he just pulled on me...

Edit: Yeaaaah...I uninstalled and reinstalled the sims. Which means finding a bunch of my custom content again. Which is why his clothing and hair sucks at the moment...

LOL, hey I run the game on my monster machine, which is a duel core, 8 gig of ram jobie... and it still has issues now and then... mind you the ammount of stuff I've got in there... someone brought me SimCity4 for Christmas, and now I can make my own neighbourhoods...

It's an ongoing process, lol. I'm not a (visual) artist, so with the exception of painting in the appropriate white stripes for the hair meshes, I'm mostly taking custom content from various sites and assembling it into something that resembles my mental image of the characters.

I find it hugely ironic that The Sims has both the best and easiest character creator AND house-creator I've ever used...the Sims house creation, although lacking in a few aspects, beats hands-down the architecture create-your-own-house software you can buy from the store. And while I've never used Poser, I suspect it is a bit easier to make characters and peoples with The Sims than with that as well.

Police could probably make great use of the Sims bodyshop, if they ever want to put together a picture of a criminal.
