Going between on the ground

Throughout the Pern books, the dangers of going between too low, or going between on the ground are constantly reiterated. What do you think would happen if someone did? Would they take a piece of the ground with them?

I know Nuella went between on Kisk in Dragon's Kin. That was on the ground, I think-- nothing amiss happened there. Although that was a watch-wher, not a dragon, so it's a different case.

I think the idea is to keep the dragons from coming out of between with a part of their body stuck in the ground. There was still worry when Nuella went between on Kisk though.

Re: Going between on the ground

Or accidentally taking some of the ground with you. Plus in Moreta Holth's takeoffs were getting shallower and her leaps between faster and barely off the ground, which in part lead to a tired Moreta not having time to think of clear coordinates and their being lost between. Taking time and planning your jumps is emphasized in Weyrling training because rushing a jump can get you killed.
