Re: Favourite aliens in planet pirates/Dinosaur planet

I'm not sure if you can edit the poll, havn't worked that out yet, but I think Thek rule!!!

as fas as I can tell Edith, the poll isn't public as I voted and my name isn't showing under where I voted.... is that what you meant? I didn't try to select 2 options though, sorry, did you vote?

edith Feb 3 2005 07:40 AM

Re: Favourite aliens in planet pirates/Dinosaur planet

Jax, It is public. click on an underlined number under vote counts and the whole lots will come up who voted where
Edith, I think you should be able to edit it? Have a fiddle. I would be interested to know
I had to vote for the PMD option. Couldnt decide. The thought of flying mountains is a bit horrific isnt it!!!

I like the real 'alienness' of the Weft and yet they are so sensitive to how people feel around them, slightly uncomfortable, a little scared and worried, and yet they are so careful not to react to this. I think they work very hard trying to reassure and calm people who aren’t comfortable.
They also intrigue me as they have more and different abilities that they've kept hidden. When the have given their loyalty to someone it stays given. A good quality in in any Race

Re: Favourite aliens in planet pirates/Dinosaur planet

i like wefts too and Ssli- they both share some characteristics, though i love those fluffy blue cow things...
i voted for all of them!

Re: Favourite aliens in planet pirates/Dinosaur planet

Wow, that was another tough choice!

But i went with the Bronthin. A whole society, and psychology, based upon the beauty of mathematics even in communication... quintescential logic!

*+*PoW!*+* ...take that Spock!

They may not be devoid of emotions as Vulcans are protrayed, but the Bronthin psychology seems to be immediate and natural, not a discipline taken on by choice, and i do like that!

And, lol, there is a cute mental pun in the use of the Bronthin's species-type. *thinks of Mr. Ed completely evolved* :horse:
I've always loved those earth-pawing counting equines. :cool:

hmmm, yep!
its a pity you dont see more of them!

I went for wefts, I really liked them :D

I could use a refresher on what the Bronthin and Lethi are, I forget.

The Bronthin are an equine race who are anti-violence and very logical/mathematical in nature. I'm not sure about the Lethi, I don't recall them and don't have them on my alien list for DP/PP

Anyone else notice that Anne and Co. stuck with earth animal archetypes for all the aliens, with the exception of Thek and Wefts?

Brachians = monkeys/simians
Bronthin = horses
Gurnsan = cows
Ryxi = birds
Ssli = hmm, similar to sea anenome, I think
unnamed tortoise species

Re: Favourite aliens in planet pirates/Dinosaur planet

The Lethi are a group of furry things that tend to stick in their group to a lump of sulfur. Don't ask me why. There isn't a lot of detail about them.

I like pretty much all the aliens. I wouldn't mind being a Weft though.

It's noticeable in other species as well. Such as the Hrrubans, ie. cats.

So far, my favorites are the Ryxi and the Seti.

And the Thek remind me of the Vorlons from Babylon 5 with their cryptic sayings.

You forgot the lizardlike Seti.

I tend to do that, too, in my own Sci-fi series. Though, I don't have horses, monkeys, cows, or sea anenomes. But, I do have birds, lizards, frogs, insects, cats, and shrews among others. I also have something like a space-dwelling sting ray. :D

a space dwelling sting ray... sounds fun!

I like my mum's slugs!

I love the Theks, tho they do act and speak a little slow for me. they take the saying haste makes waste a little to far.

:shhh: totaly slightly off topic but for some reason i know something that i mst share. the horses that were thought to count were found out to be just sensing the anticipation of the people watching. it would stop "counting" when the anticipation died down.

Theks rule!
I look out at the beautiful mountains we have here and wonder. However they make me think of the trees in the two towers JRR Tolkken.

Re: Favourite aliens in planet pirates/Dinosaur planet

I'm sure you're right about the performing horses, Phoenix, but horses can count to an extent. I remember when the boarding stable where I used to keep horses got new, larger feed scoops. All the horses were expecting to get three scoops in their buckets and some (including mine) were really offended when they only got one. It didn't matter how much was in the bucket, they were waiting for the other two scoops!

I chose the Thek, but the Wefts were a very close second!

Gidget2 Feb 6 2007 07:56 AM

Re: Favourite aliens in planet pirates/Dinosaur planet

Apparently I already voted for Wefts. Don't remember that. But, I was actually going to vote for Theks. I do think the Wefts are kind of cool though, despite the fact that if they go off-world then they are rendered infertile. I think shape-shifting would be a nice trait!

But the amount of knowledge the Theks have accumulated must be so amazing! Although they did do that whole planet-razing stuff didn't they? *shrug* Would be pretty neat though all the same.

Why aren't the Hrrubans on the list? They are definitely my favourites!

they're not in that series!

Wefts or Ssli get my vote, I can't choose... I love the thought of the aliens voluntarily remaining their whole lives aboard ships. Those hyperspace senses are really cool too.

I voted Seti. The reckless gamblers of the universe.

Quote:

I was amused by the Door of Honor and the Tunnel of Cowardly Certainty.

And the tossing of loaded dice while travelling faster than light as a token of respect to the gods of chance:

Quote:

‘The Glorious Chaos,’ as they named that indeterminate state in which ships traveled or seemed to travel fester than light, had sufficient uncertainty to require no assistance. So they tossed loaded dice, as a token of respect, and to allow the gods of chance to interfere if they were determined.

I voted for Thek but it was a hard choice I was tempted to say All of Them because they each have their interesting traits.

Re: Favourite aliens in planet pirates/Dinosaur planet

Well, I voted for Wefts, although I also like Thek and Ssli. I particularly liked the relationships between the Ssli, the Wefts, and Sassinak. And also that the Thek seemed to have a particular fondness for the Wefts.
