Aussiecon 4 (Worldcon) photos

I'm in the process of uploading and working out the best photos to display. KC, Flinx and Kesal, please help me out here with any comments or further photos (in case I've forgotten anything). Flinx and I caught up with each other on Wednesday night ~ KC and Kath did the same thing Thursday morning but none of us officially got together until much later.

DAY 1:

Waiting in line to get registered ~ I found Kesal volunteering here and what a great bunch of volunteers who managed to get us all through so patiently :D

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...m/IMG_0139.jpg

At Kesal's book launch that she helped to set up....

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...m/IMG_0138.jpg
Better buy this book or else (Kesal, myself and Flinx):

Opening ceremony and the first introduction of all the guests and winners (Nuff, Duff etc)...

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...m/IMG_0149.jpg

In the Dealer's Room, I got pulled up and conned into buying his book (Ian Nichols):
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...m/IMG_0156.jpg

and our favourite author :D
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...m/IMG_0161.jpg

and something to keep Lady Maelin happy with all the rockets:

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...m/IMG_0158.jpg
and my favorite :shhh:
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...m/IMG_0159.jpg
I did see this year's Hugo award up close but I didn't have my camera at the time...It was pretty and one of the best ones on display, had an Aussie flavour to it. (Hope someone captured it on camera...help if you did, I'd be grateful too)....

KC and I went to the Tim Burton show that night and probably the only legitimate photo I took at the time that looked decent...

Nice to see some photos of a different *WorldCon*...and that is a lovely photo of Anne, one I don't have in my collection.
So did you enjoy yourself?

Thank you! For these lovely photo's wth comment! Well done Jube. Hope the others will indeed chime in. Looks like you had a great time.

What an impressive rocket collection!

Re: Aussiecon 4 (Worldcon) photos

Lady Maelin, I did and glad you like the pic of Anne. I also found ones of SM Stirling and Elizabeth Moon too but none of Elizabeth Scarborough or Judy Lynn Nye.

All those Hugo awards, Hans and I couldn't take them home :D Thought the rockets might impress Lady Maelin as she likes them ;)

Okay onto some more photos...

Day 2:

During the course of the day, I found several authors that were happy to sign books:

Ian Irvine:
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...m/IMG_0185.jpg

Kate Elliott at her Kaffeeklatsch which I managed to get into :D:
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...m/IMG_0191.jpg

A Dr Who panel:

Kylie Chan - she needs a big PLUG here because she would like a bigger market so please buy her books:
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...m/IMG_0198.jpg

and after I picked up Junior, we found this cool band at Flinders Street station:

Thanks for the great photos, Jube!
No photos from me, I only have the iPhone for a camera, and the photos I took really aren't worth posting.

It was a mega busy weekend, and I was ill for the entire week before, and have since managed to injure myself as well.

But in spite of all that was incredible!

Re: Aussiecon 4 (Worldcon) photos

Thank you. I'm in the process of uploading to Photobucket (well it's a slow process for me because I'm sort of putting things away or getting laminated etc) or I can send you via email all the photos that I've taken ~ well except for maybe the really dodgy ones ;) and there are a few of them so at least you've got something of Aussiecon. Figured with all the stuff you were doing, you might not have had a chance of taking photos. It was great meeting you, KC and Flinx, even if it was brief moments in time. Hope you're feeling better now. Don't forget to put your feet up

Re: Aussiecon 4 (Worldcon) photos

Great photos, Jube. The horror costumes are fantastic and that photo of you is really special *nods*

Do you always have such rosy cheeks, mrs. cherub? :)

Kesal Sep 8 2010 09:19 AM

Re: Aussiecon 4 (Worldcon) photos

Actually, my cheeks are usually that red too, and even more so if I have anything containing sulphites or nitrates, but I was pale through my entire sinus infection - except the night of the Nightmare Ball, but you can't see it through the many layers of makeup and talc powder.

Tuesday I woke up with very red cheeks, however. Apparently, it's very common on the Dutch side of the family to have rosacea ;)

Glad you enjoyed yourselves

Yes, 2 drinks later and the sinus nearly cleared up for the rest of the night, didn't it Kesal? :D

Hans, my cheeks are quite rosy at times :notme: or in my case English parentage and being out in the sun too much, does not mix for this little Aussie rose :shriek: *chuckles*.

Umm, think I better get onto Day 3:

Now I can't remember if this queue was for George R.R. Martin or Kim Stanley Robinson but there were several long lines for the more popular ones, others we could line up and have a few minutes of chat-time with the authors so here's George R.R. Martin and Kim Stanley Robinson (who I thought was quite pleasant to talk to for the few brief times that we caught up with each other over the weekend. HINT: don't go barrelling into George Martin when neither of you are looking down the hallway, it made for an interesting "hug / hello" moment).

Samsara, Jennifer Fallon remembers you and salutations as well, she hopes you've enjoyed the books so far :D:good::fiend:

I'll have to get back to you on this one....it is written down somewhere:
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...m/IMG_0249.jpg

The mug shots of those who came before and a few that KC didn't get a chance to click on for me. I got left holding "Sparrow" who got up on stage then promptly dis-membered her costume before her parents got photos...

Thank you Lady Maelin.

Day 4:

Whilst waiting in line for Shaun Tan, I thought this lady's finger nails were pretty cool :)..
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...m/IMG_0284.jpg

The hands belong to...
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...m/IMG_0285.jpg

And in the kids' room, later on, Shaun Tan explains how to draw:
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...m/IMG_0313.jpg

I meet up with Trudi Carnavan in the same signing as Shaun Tan:
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...m/IMG_0288.jpg

On a panel with Jennifer Fallon (Kate Forsyth was at the other end - the only time I was able to catch up with her and also I found all the authors who signed my books were very gracious so many thanks to each and every one of them)
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...m/IMG_0299.jpg

Junior loved all his Star Wars characters that he found :D
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...m/IMG_0289.jpg
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...m/IMG_0291.jpg

And of course Dr Who always gets a mention (we so love watching this show) at the end of the day with Daleks:
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...m/IMG_0315.jpg

Can we include junior MoM'ers too? YES WE CAN sez all of us...

Re: Aussiecon 4 (Worldcon) photos

Day 5 ~ the last day I really didn't take many photos for some reason, barring these:

Reno 2011 at the closing ceremony:
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...m/IMG_0334.jpg

and meeting Kim Stanley Robinson again at the Volunteers' "do" where Junior "won" his prepaid phone (the moral of the story was that Junior managed to catch the tram and got on, I being a slow coach missed it by a second and caught the next one. The lady on the tram that junior caught made sure he got off at the next stop so we caught up, hence buying a phone so he didn't get "lost" again )..

I so can NOT show the fingernails to the kidling or her friend across the street. Teagan has her own TARDIS, for cryin' out loud.. I can just hear her begging her mother or me to paint her nails to match!

Does the kidling get to see what you do on MoM? I know mine looks at the photos sometimes but not often. He's a lurker!

I know the feeling with meeting some a friend of ours, who didn't know I got to see what Kathy M. was wearing on stage, via my mono scope, something like a far see but help us see thing.

Great images and thanks for posting!

Re: Aussiecon 4 (Worldcon) photos

It's called "Baggage", an anthology of stories by Aussie authors. The editor is Gillian Polack.

My other plug is Kylie Chan - please go to http://www.kyliechan.com for more info on her books. She also went to Aussiecon 4. I promised her that I would do my best to plug her books and she's on my list to read her books, in fact they're sitting amongst my pile to read so I'm on a mission to "plug away" her books.

I've already plugged away for Jennifer Fallon in other threads so :D:D one more plug for other Aussie authors gets my vote, especially as they're such nice people. Pstt... Samsara, you're famous, Jennifer remembers you :fiend:

No worries, you're welcome.

The Sunday Herald Sun had an article in it today. I've scanned it and will put it up when I'm more organised :D;)

Thanks Jube!

Re: Aussiecon 4 (Worldcon) photos

Well not just KC, there was four of us there representing MoM ;) We all "bumped" into each other at various stages during the Con, sometimes doing things together and at other times, doing our own thing. Also I don't know what photos the others plan to put up with their interests at said con so that's something I'll leave up to them to sort out. But I'm glad everyone's enjoying what I've put up so far.

BTW, I did put a photo in Eann's Barque Cat's thread of KC finding one of Eann's books so please go check it out :D

Looks like you had an amazing time Jube!! I wish I'd been able to go... Haven't had a chance to have a good look at your photos yet, but what I've skimmed so far seems great. I thought your costume was cool!
It's great that Jennifer Fallon remembers me! I did manage to finish the Tide Lord Series that she signed for me at Supanova, and I loved them! Most enjoyable new author I have read in ages... I'm extra happy now to have had them inscribed!

Well just popping in to say hi quickly. I'm really busy with essay's and assigments now, so I don't have a lot of spare time at the moment. I am catching up with KC and Joz on Saturday arvo, so I'm looking forward to that!

Hopefully I'll be back on line again soon! I miss you guys.

Hi making a simple request for those who are on facebook, please go to http://www.facebook.com/OrbitAustralia (it's for Australian residents only but I need all the help I can get with comments/like on the stuff I've put in). The reason being is that Orbit has a competition to win every book they produce in 2011 and well me being an avid reader would like to have a go at it so hint, hint, please help. You'll find me in the fan photos as I've put my bookshelf up and my Aussiecon4 photo (there are threads with those photos in it so I've already shown them off previously). Anyway if you can help, I'd be grateful. If not, there's no harm in having a look at what they've got on offer.
